Library History

1883 г. -		The Mala Kutlovitsa Chitalishte was founded.


1894 г. -		In The Chitalishte was founded the library and has been collected the first books and periodicals.


1938 г. -		The Library was situated in the new building with Lending and Reading Rooms. The Universal Decimal Classification has been introduced in first time.


1953 г. -		The Library`s status has been raised to "regional" and the collections numbers 11 761 materials.


1956 г. -		The Children Department was founded.


1959 г. -		The Book acqusition and Cataloging section were founded.


1959 г. -		The Library has been declared "regional and consulting".


1961 г. -		The Library introduced a new services- free access to stocks.


1961 г. -		The first Reading Room was founded.


1961 г. -		The first Library branch was founded.


1966 г. -		The Regional Studies department was founded.


1968 г. -		The Art Department was founded.


1978 г. -		The Library was situated in the new buiding on the Zheravitsa square.


1978 г. -		The Reference and Information Department was founded.


1993 г. -		The begginig of the automation of library processings.


1998 г. -		The Library was awarded with The Honorable sign of The Municipality of Montana .


1998 г. -		Mrs Elke Beer- Director of Chemnitz Public Library visited Montana Library and established the partnership between the two libraries.


1999 г. -		Mrs Dimitrina Borisova- Director of Montana Library and Mrs Valeria Krasteva visited Chemnitz Public library.


1999 г. -		The basement of the library was flooded.


1999 г. -		The German Reading Room was founded.


2000 г. -		The Consulting and Inforamtion center of Coethe Institut was founded.


2002 г. -		The European Information center was founded.


2004 г. -		The Library is challenged to be recognized as a Community Information Center, as a participant of ABLE project.


2004 г. -		The Library became a participant of ABLE project.


2005 г. -		Mrs Borisova- Director- visited Bettendorf Public Library- our sister library in ABLE project.


2006 г. -		Mrs Anelia Ivanova visited bettendorf Public Library for 5 weeks as participant of ABLE project.


2006 г. -		Mrs Nadezda Dimitrova attended in The COBISS Conference in Slovenia.


2007 г. -		The Library provides free Internet access after donation from Nelie and Robert Gipson- members of The Honourable Committee of ABLE.
